Our Turf Story
Performance & Resilience
Versatile & Low-Maintenance
— Golf courses & tee decks: short, pristine finish
— Home lawns & fairways: medium-cut, easy-care
— Horse racing tracks & public areas: longer, resilient coverage.
With high shoot density, Oakridge® withstands heavy wear, recovers rapidly from damage, and thrives with regular mowing throughout the warmer months.
Allergy-Friendly & Non-Seeding
Oakridge® is also quick to establish, forming a dense, matted root system that stabilises soil — an added benefit for erosion-prone areas.
Thrives in Varied Climates
Selected from the cool mountain valleys of Queensland’s Darling Downs — 500 metres above sea level — Oakridge® Kikuyu is cold-tolerant in a way that most kikuyu varieties simply aren’t.
It performs best in regions with variable temperature ranges, including areas subject to frost conditions — think the Darling Downs, Stanthorpe, and similar inland areas — through to South East Queensland, coastal and inland NSW, Victoria, South Australia, and the ACT.
Well suited to: SEQ · NSW · VIC · SA · ACT · Inland QLD (including Darling Downs, Stanthorpe).
Less suitable for: Far North Queensland and tropical regions, where consistently high temperatures year-round suit other grass species better.

Why Choose Oakridge® Over Seeded Kikuyu?
No Seed or Pollen for a Cleaner Lawn
Unlike seeded kikuyu, Oakridge® is a non-seeding, male-sterile variety — eliminating the unsightly webs of white stamens that typically appear on seeded kikuyu lawns.
Key Benefits:
— No damage from seed-harvesting birds
— No seed spread into garden beds or neighbouring properties
— No pollen — making Oakridge® the right choice for allergy sufferers, for both people and pets.
Superior Winter Colour and Cold Tolerance
Originating from the cool mountain valleys of the Darling Downs, QLD — 500 metres above sea level — Oakridge® is bred to handle serious cold. It tolerates 30+ frosts per year, making it a dependable choice for both cooler southern climates and areas with light to moderate winter frosts.
As a result, Oakridge® holds vibrant green colour deep into autumn and early winter — well beyond what other kikuyu varieties can offer.
— Cold tolerance and winter survival
— Sustained wear resistance through cooler conditions.

Backed by Decades of Kikuyu Research
Oakridge® Kikuyu is developed under licence from Genegro Pty Ltd — the breeding entity of Dr Donald S. Loch, one of Australia’s most prolific warm-season turfgrass researchers. With over 50 years of hands-on experience, Dr Loch has personally evaluated and registered kikuyu varieties at the scientific level, including formal Plant Varieties Journal registrations of K-5 and Crowne kikuyu cultivars (2009). Oakridge® represents the next generation of that work.
Dr Loch’s research into kikuyu extends to pest ecology — his team’s 2016 national survey identified and formally described a new mite species, Steneotarsonemus hippodromus, found exclusively on kikuyu turf in Australia. It was the first global identification of this pest. That depth of scientific knowledge is built into how Oakridge® is bred, managed, and recommended.
